Genesis Too

Genesis is growing! Twenty Six years ago a small but hardy group of High School youth gathered at Trinity as the first Genesis. They began as a youth group but through the years Genesis grew to a metro-wide ministry including young people from other Lutheran Churches, other denominations and a few who consider Genesis their church. We have traveled throughout the western states each summer performing and building relationships with people in other states and even Canada.
A group of leaders and chaperones have been planning the next steps for Genesis. We hope to build on the tradition. High School youth will be gathering on most Sunday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm at Trinity for activities, service work and at 7:30 pm worship time with Pastor Glenn. We will be gathering in the downstairs parish hall. It is our hope to build on the great tradition by expanding the idea of Genesis. Genesis will continue its musical ministry to and with young people. We hope to add to this other High School youth who have other talents and gifts. They will be Genesis Too. If you want more information give Pastor Glenn a call. We are asking for your prayers and your support in our on going efforts to build a High School ministry for our community.

The Wild Island Adventure Park was a BLAST. The weather was warm and sunny as we pulled up in our luxurious MTR Western Motor Coach. The sign at the gate had a number of reminders including, "No outside food or drink allowed in the park. This includes personal water bottles excluding Dasani water bottles." We wondered about that for a few minutes until we discovered that the coporate sponsor for Wild Island is Coca-Cola. Corporate America. There is no escape. A parent on the tour bought two cabana's for the group to hang out in and they were a nice break from the sun. The cabana's came with a bucket filled with ice and water bottles for each of us. After getting ready to get into the water the chaperones laid down some ground rules including being generous with the application of sun screen. After exitng the water, "reapply" we were reminded. They forgot to remind us to take our cell phones out of our pockets. Yup! As I was floating down the lazy river I reached down and felt my cell phone in the pocket of my swimming trunks. Tonight my cell phone is in a zip lock bag with dry rice and my self-respect is also zipped up. If you want to contact me call Sue Penk and she will relay the message. Texting is limited to the scriptures.

We were at the swim park till about 5:00 pm. We loaded the bus and headed back to the church. Pastor John and all of the folks had laid out a really good dinner and we ate EVERYTHING! We then gathered in the sanctuary for the performance. Everyone enjoyed the show and the performers were at their best. Things were humming along when I discovered that we were missing one of our performers. Seems that Hailey Hall had snuck out the back door and got sick during the second part of the performance. Not to worry she is resting comfortably and we all voted that she should get the couch in the quiet room tonight. After the performance the congregation stayed around to say how much they enjoyed the performance and Pastor John invited us back whenever we come through Reno. They like us they really like us!

After the congregation left our devotion time was centered around Matthew 9:35-38. This is where Jesus talks about how there is much work to be done and few who can do the work. He suggests that the disciples pray for more help. We thought this would be timely as we had worked in the Amazon Weed forest earlier in the day. There were alot of weeds and our group was small but determined.

At this point we are settling in for the night and we are up and on the road tomorrow heading for Oakland California.

And there was evening and there was morning day three.
